TASMAC London School of Business recently provided a sample training programme for the Radisson Hotels Group. This  session was held in Radisson Vanderbilt Hotel in Central London on 6th September 2011. This 2- hour training taster programme was conducted by a group of experienced teaching faculty from TASMAC, touching diverse subTraining in Actionjects of relevance to hotel employees, such as ‘complaining behaviour of customers’ and ‘conflict management’. Some movie clips related to hospitality culture were also shown.  The last part of the training programme ended with a strategic game which involved the participants and brought out their strategic and group decision-making styles.

The feedback of this taster training session was very positive with most participants showing keen interest and seeking a longer and more detailed session in the future. The session was also a learning experience for TASMAC in its foray into the corporate training world. The expectations of executives in a business would be easier to comprehend, interpret and address in the future.

Providing current and application-oriented training to existing executives can be a challenging task for academia, because of the gap between theoretical research and practicalities of everyday business. Traingin in actionSuch palpable gaps can sometimes make the trainees feel that the training is redundant.  Partly due to this reason, although most training and human resource managers agree on the importance of training, companies often shy away from involving academics in training action-oriented service sector employees. Other key hurdles for HR and training managers include budgetary constraints  and the scheduling inconvenience to accommodate diverse and time-constrained executives under a single roof.

Despite these challenges TASMAC received good feedback showing that 96% of participants felt the session was relevant to their needs and 90% saying it was a good use of their time.
